Steelism:

New to Nashville's music scene are two extraordinary young musicians - one American, one Brit - at the helm of instrumental band Steelism. Jeremy Fetzer on guitar and Spencer Cullum on pedal steel are joined by a team of the finest young musicians in Nashville. Following in the traditions of instrumental groups such as The Ventures and Booker T & the MGs, Steelism let their instruments do the talking, creating exuberant melodies and hooks that are thoroughly modern, with a wink and a nod to their instrumentalist forebears.

Cullum and Fetzer first met as two of the most sought-after young musicians in Nashville, performing in backing bands for Caitlin Rose, Wanda Jackson, Jonny “Corndawg” Fritz, Rayland Baxter and Andrew Combs, among others. In one another they discovered a mutual enthusiasm for instrumental pop music across genres - country, surf rock, reggae, funk and soul.

The band truly shines in their live show: Fetzer sings on his Telecaster, his creative agility making complex accents and nuances appear effortless. Cullum manipulates his pedal steel with equal dexterity, subverting the instrument’s typical twang with an array of diverse tones, textures, and effects. Together, the two have a harmonious and distinctive musical conversation that reveals a deep well of creativity and adventurous spirit.

The band is currently recording their first full-length album for Single Lock Records in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Founded by Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes), John Paul White (Civil Wars) and Will Trapp, Single Lock is also home to St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
